It was indeed a Black thursday,at the otedola bridge area of ojodu berger,lagos state.As a petrol laden tanker burst into flames.
According to reports,the tanker which had been heading towards the ibadan expressway,fell off the bridge with an ensuing fiery spill,engulfing cars and people on its path.so far,a total number of 67 vehicles were burnt,10 persons were confirmed dead,while 4 others were rushed to the hospital by the lagos state ambulance service(LASAMBUS).
The state government meanwhile,sympathized with families of the vicitims.A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy,Kehinde Bamigbetan described the incident as sad and most unfortunate.The statement reads”On behalf of the state government,we extend our deepest commiseration to the families of the persons who lost their lives,as well as properties to the incident.Our thought and prayers are with them in this tine of pain and grief.
“As a government, we would not relent in putting measures in place to ensure the safety of lives and properties of all residents”.
The governor noted that efforts to clear the highway of damaged cars,would continue.He further urged citizens to cooperate with officals of emergency agencies mobilized to the area to normalize the situation, and also urged motorists to adhere to safety standards and the states traffic laws to prevent a recurrence.
