Hundreds of Damaturu residents have been rendered homeless as a result of a great flood which suddenly took over the whole villages.
The flooding was reported to have started as a result of a heavy rain which fell and lasted for several hours.the effected villages were Nayi Nawa,Shago Tara,fulatari,pompomari and Bulabulin.
The permanent secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA)Alhaji Musa Jidawa,speaking on the incident described it as “Unprecedented “even though no casualties were reported.
“The agency, in collaboration with Damaturu local government council, is assessing the damage and ascertaining people involved to provide them with the needed assistance.
“Damaturu has not seen anything close to this flood in the last 20 years, we have gone round for first-hand information to determine areas of immediate needs and intervention.”
He further stated that the state government would work towards providing food and some building materials to the affected victims.
However,some of the victims who spoken to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)pleaded on the state government to aid the affected victims and also construct good drainage channels for easy flow of water,inorder to avert a future occurrence.
